The Arts Powerhouse - Usina de las Artes

Buenos Aires is the largest city in Argentina, and the second-largest metropolitan area in South America. Participants in our Summer Seminar will be able to appreciate the pulsating cultural life of Buenos Aires, with its thousands of cafés bookstores, museums, universities, libraries, theaters and restaurants. We are aware of the sort of cultural experiences in which our participants will be immersed and how they will be able to enrich their lives not only by attending and discussing plays—which is our Seminar’s goal—but also by nurturing their intellectual perspective forever.

The Seminar will have three full-group sessions per week (Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday) / 2 sessions per day x 2 hours each. 48 hours in total.  Class will meet in a smart room in downtown Buenos Aires at the UMET Universidad Metropolitana para la Educación y el Trabajo.

There will be one guest speaker per week (theater directors, actors, and playwrights).

Teatro San Martín

Every week, participants and directors will attend at least two plays together (Argentine or from other Latin American countries, if available). They will also read and discuss at least two additional Latin American plays.

Beginning the first week and continuing through all four weeks: consultation between directors and participants on individual projects and their relation to the Seminar’s theoretical framework will be available. Directors will be available before or after sessions either in person, by phone, e-mail, or by appointment for consultation.

For their final project, participants are invited to submit an article for publication in a collection of essays edited by the directors. It will be completed after their return from the seminar.

December 10, 2015 is the deadline for submission of participants’ final projects.
